Land Takeover Threatens MDGs

The alarm on land rush was sounded in the ongoing programmes of the World Social Forum held in Dakar, Senegal, at a session organised by the Panos Institute West Africa (PIWA) entitled "Land issues: Monopolization of land in Africa". Speakers drew attention to the emerging phenomenon which has seen oil-rich Saudi Arabia buying up fertile farmlands in one of the hungriest countries in the world, Ethiopia.
